Sunday, January 23, 2011

Hello, I was also able to do some sewing this weekend.  I entered a potholder into a potholder contest sponsored by http://www.prudentbaby.com/ .  The winner will receive a sewing machine and they are giving away 2 machines.  You can enter as many times as you wish.  The potholder I entered was one hanging in my kitchen now that I made when I was a teenager for my hope chest.

I've got another one to enter already made, but it is stored in the shed and I can't get to it by myself.  I made it when I was sewing quilt squares into potholders. Blue jeans was my next choice of material.  I cut the backseat out of a pair and serged bandana print around it, used flannel for the inside and more denim for the back.  I saw this idea on another site.  You can slide your hand into the back pocket. I also embroidered a design on the back pocket (after an hour of ripping the thread out).  I have no idea what the judges will like so I'm going to send a variety.  If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Joey was with me on Saturday and we decided to make a few things for his mother for Valentines Day.  I already had a kitchen towel with multicolor stripes.  I used those colors to put hearts and "Best Mommy" on it.  I also have several black with light gray polka dots and pink trim cosmetic bags.  I embroidered a L in curlz font in light pink with black dots.  Both turned out pretty cute.  At least Joey liked them.

Another busy weekend.  I should get my new sewing machine by Friday.  I can't wait!!!!!  I've got one project to finish and more to start.

Oh, I also sent Mainstreet Milledgeville a few pictures to see if they will let me enter some of my wares in their Milledgeville in the Arts for First Fridays.  Maybe I'll sell a few things there.  At least it doesn't cost anything.  No loss but time.

Have a great week!

January 23, 2011- EDIT class reflections

Well, I completed my first assignment for my EDIT class this afternoon.  I read over a 35 pages study completed by the Hanover group on the proper method to conduct an online course.  It was pretty interesting and a lot of it seemed to be common sense especially if you practice Best Practices in your regular classroom.  The hardest part was creating the 2 multiple choice or true/false questions over the material. One of which had to be higher order.  I'm used to creating higher order questions with discussion questions or with creative outcomes.  Oh well, I hope I did it correctly.

I had to choose a chapter from our textbook to conduct an online lesson to our group.  I chose my chapter based solely on when the presentation date would occur.  I wanted to present immediately following our school's Spring break so that I would have several examples (from other students) and a week to prepare.  The chapter did seem interesting so I hope it works out.

Have a great week everybody!

MLKjr Weekend

Friday, January 14, I love weekends.  I can sleep as long as I want- stay up as long as I want.  And stay secluded in my little sewing room to play.  I got some really good news (late, but just in time) from a friend.  She is expecting a little girl in 2 weeks.  Now I have a project for Saturday!  Yeah!!  Burpies- little girl burpies-  Sew much fun!  I'll post more as I work on them.

Baby girl burpies!
Sunday, January 16, I found this really cool idea that I wish I had had last week when it was sooooo cold.  It's called a neck gaiter.  Weird name- maybe I'll come up with a better, cuter name like "tube scarf", "neck warmer". Ha! Ha!  I think it will require some more thought.  Maybe somebody out there can help me out.

Anyway- Here are some pictures.  I'm thinking I'm going to share a few with the local soccer coaches to generate an interest among the teams and parents.  Let's see where it will take me.
